The Ogun State Government has approved the establishment of two additional Model Farm Estates, to be situated in Ogun-East and Ogun West senatorial districts of the State.When on stream, the estates alongside the Owowo Farm Estate which is already in existence would provide employment to over 300 participants and offer indirect employment to about 2000, working on different aspect of farming, including egg production, fresh and smoked fish production, arable crops, orchard, fruits and vegetable.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun stated this at the roll – out of Growth Enhancement Support [G.E.S] programme for Cocoa farmers held at CAN Secretariat, in Ijebu-East Local Government of the State. The Commissioner also disclosed that the first phase of the Model Farm Estate in the Ogun Central Senatorial District, situated in Owowo near Abeokuta would contain 50 units of one-bedroom apartment with necessary conveniences with each of the buildings having an attachment of fish tanks, a poultry pen and small holder irrigation for arable crops along with 200 hectares of arable land. Mrs. Sokefun therefore used the opportunity to reiterate government’s commitment to boost agricultural production and improve the livelihood of all stakeholders, warning farmers to desist from destroying the State forest trees in government reserves on the pretence of planting or replacing them with cocoa tree as government would not fold its arms see its forest destroyed.
